I have worked with Sarah Rose on marketing for several productions she choreographed or directed. Each time she was collaborative, thoughtful, and helpful, and came up with creative ways to build up excitement for the shows!
I have worked with Sarah Rose now on two large musicals at Little Theatre of Manchester: "9 to 5" and "In The Heights." I have also seen quite a bit of her choreography in other productions and I am so impressed with her creativity in making both experienced and inexperienced dancers shine. Her works enhances and moves the plot along and I have been extremely fortunate to work with such a professional. Her collaborative demeanor also makes her a joy to work with!
I’ve been producing musicals with Sarah Rose for over 20 years, and she’s truly one of the best choreographers I’ve worked with. Whether someone’s a seasoned dancer or trying it for the first time, Sarah breaks things down in a way that makes everyone feel successful. Working with Sarah Rose on my play, Crossing John at the Crossroads, remains one of the highlights of my four decades of theatermaking at the academic and professional level. Her enthusiasm, talent, and follow-through set her apart from her peers then and continues to do so. Sarah Rose is one of the few people I’ve met who truly possesses the “Midas Touch.” It seems that everything she puts her mind and energy to blossoms into something wonderful and enriching. In fact, I remember thinking almost exactly those words when I took the family to see her the production of Shrek: The Musical that she choreographed for the Opera House Players. When I think of people I would drop everything to work with, Sarah Rose Stack is easily one of the first that comes to mind. I genuinely consider it one of the greatest privileges of my life to know her and to have been able to work with her on several projects, both personal and professional.
Sarah Rose is a true mastermind and a creative genius, and I don’t use those terms lightly. When she is given the space and the freedom to play and flex her artistic muscles, she soars. There is a level of selflessness that is required to be a good artistic collaborator. One must be willing to be completely vulnerable, putting their ideas out into the universe, yet also prepared for those ideas to be shot down; always aware that what they offer up is no more valuable than that of anyone else in the room. Sarah has mastered this spirit, eager to give her all, but flexible and unafraid to yield to the vision of the collective when needed. Despite her long list of qualifications and accomplishments, she is ever humble and down-to-earth.
Beyond her obvious talents, Sarah Rose is an amazingly special person to have in the room. She fosters an environment of warmth and support. My first impression of her was when I was cast in a musical in drag. At our first dance rehearsal together, she took a moment to ask me for my pronouns and which name I preferred to be called during the process. I was in my street clothes and not wearing makeup, but she still recognized the role I would be playing and put in the extra effort to respect me and my identity. As the rehearsal went on, she very quickly took note of my individual style of dance and what moves I gravitated towards. When it came time for some smaller featured sections, she placed me with a group of women so I could do one of the more feminine dance combos. She took into account what I was comfortable doing, what looked best in my body, and put me in position where I could shine the most. Sarah Rose has this unique ability to almost instantly assess performers’ strengths and she uses it to personalize and uplift at every opportunity. I am comfortable to be myself and to take risks because I know Sarah always has my best interest at heart.
Sarah Rose has pushed me to become a better performer every single time that we have worked together. With her encouragement, patience, and guidance, I have been able to tackle challenging and intricate choreography that I never would’ve thought was within my skillset. She has believed in me even when I didn’t. Especially when I didn’t.
I firmly believe Sarah Rose Stack is one of the greats and I will always want her on my team.
Sarah Rose consistently puts her whole heart and being into whatever project she is working on! I have had the honor of seeing her eloquently use movement and dance to progress stories in a wide range of styles of musical theater repertoire. Her passion and attention to detail are truly unmatched. Whether it be researching traditional Romani dance style to portray the intricacies of the gypsies in The Hunchback of Notre Dame or crafting thoughtful and precise choreography to embody the style of Michael Bennett in A Chorus Line, Sarah Rose consistently goes well beyond the traditional expectations of a choreographer, enhancing every story she tells with this level of meticulousness. Sarah Rose Stack brought a professional quality to her rehearsal process while still allowing the cast to have fun and enjoy the time we were rehearsing. I’ve worked with SRS for nearly two decades, and from the start, we selected her to support our theatre initiatives such as Broadway Custom because she brought the unique perspective of a performer and dancer, combined with sharp PR and marketing expertise. Broadway Custom offered training from Broadway and industry professionals to the next generation of performers, and Sarah deeply understood that world. She designed and maintained our website, advised on social media strategy, and even participated in the program herself. Her ability to merge creativity with strategy made her an essential part of our team and helped elevate the reach and reputation of our program.
