Choreography Style / Approach

1970s-inspired movement with jazz, tap, square dancing, and character-driven storytelling. The dream sequence also included references to each of the lady’s inspirations: Chicago, Annie Get Your Gun, and Snow White/Fairytales.

Challenges / Innovations / Notable Moments

  • Hart to Heart: This is probably one of the funniest numbers I’ve ever worked on. It was really well-executed!
  • One of the Boys: We split our ensemble into 2 groups: jazz and tap, which helped to drive the excitement of this piece. Lots of dynamic movement to feature Violet’s dream of becoming CEO.
  • The choreography for this show required dance and major blocking for various reveals and story progression.
  • The set was large and visually stunning, but we didn’t have full access to it until the final week of rehearsals. Once it was in place, we had to adjust blocking and choreography on the fly, but those changes ultimately strengthened the show. For example, we initially worried that keeping the desks on stage during Hart to Heart would undercut the moment, but it actually made the scene even funnier and more dynamic.
